Bucharest, June 30, 2021: easyECO Association opened INTERSECT, the first intersectional community center in Bucharest, located in 24 Arcului St., which offers an integrated package of education, information, counseling and support measures for people from disadvantaged communities.
INTERSECT – The Intersectional Community Center is a project developed by easyECO Association in partnership with E-Romnja Association with the financial support of the Active Citizens Fund Romania, programme funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants. The aim of the project is to increase inclusion and empower vulnerable groups in disadvantaged communities in Bucharest, facing multiple discriminations (economic, ethnic, age, gender, sexual orientation etc.).
The free activities hosted by the INTERSECT Community Center include art workshops for talented children and young people, who will receive material support and mentoring for artistic creations and performances, which will be presented to the public at the INTERSECT Festival, held annually in September, starting this year.
Adolescents and young people will be able to attend weekly personal development workshops and will be sustained by ongoing career support, specialist counseling, the access to processing and printing their CV and searching for jobs online, as well as in face-to-face meetings with employers, at the community center, during the biannual Job, Qualification and Training Fair.
The INTERSECT community center is also aimed at supporting adults, offering them the opportunity to get involved in various activities within an awareness and empowerment campaign in community organization and construction, community leadership for Roma women, in the field of human rights and anti-discrimination, as well as to participate in a series of community consultation and coagulation events (community lunches, cultural evenings, etc.).
The free services offered at the center include psychological and reproductive health counseling, but also material support, all participants in the project activities having access to the KOMBINAT Store, a free-shop type help space aimed at preserving personal dignity, whre all available products (clothes, toiletries, groceries, etc.), coming from donations, are offered for free.
